The links on this page lead to fuller descriptions of the works listed (members only).
The opus numbering of Sibelius’s works contains many inconsistencies and illogicalities. The composer first produced a numbered list of works in 1896, and a list of opus numbers the following year, but many of these numbers were later changed. Not until 1903 did his works start to be published with opus numbers, and only from 1930–31 onwards can the numbering be regarded as definitive. A full description of the development of Sibelius’s opus numbers is found in Fabian Dahlström’s Jean Sibelius: Thematisch-bibliographisches Verzeichnis seiner Werke (Breitkopf & Härtel 2003, pp.680–692).
In 1982 the Sibelius family donated a major collection of manuscripts to Helsinki University Library (HUL, now the National Library of Finland). Many of these works are now known by JS numbers, referring to the alphabetical list of Jean Sibelius’s compositions without opus number used in Dahlström’s above-mentioned catalogue. A significant number of these compositions will ultimately be published by Breitkopf & Härtel.

Hi, I am trying to find score parts for the following composition,
Piano quartet in D minor, JS 157 for two violins, cello and piano, by J. Sibelius. Could any of the experts here help? Thanks.
1. Andante molto – Allegro moderato, 2. Adagio, 3. Menuetto, 4. Grave – Rondo (Vivacissimo)
The Piano Quartet is not published (yet!), and therefore the standard ‘manuscript procedure’ still applies. In short: all works in manuscript must be cleared in advance with the Sibelius family for each performance. First port of call should be Ms Aino Porra [aino.porra@gmail.com], Sibelius’s granddaughter, who is currently chairperson for the family and handles all matters of permission for the estate. It may take a while before she can answer, as Breitkopf & Härtel also have a copyright interest in most works and they may need to give approval as well. Once she has given written consent you can order from the National Library of Finland photocopies of the manuscript score from which parts would have to be written out; I’m not sure what the copy costs are at the moment, but they are not unreasonable. / Andrew / gm@sibeliusone.com
Gina, did you get the sheet music for Piano quartet in D minor, JS 157? I am currently looking for it too.
