6 thoughts on “Discography & Recordings

  1. I was pleased to see that Sargents recordings of Sibelius symphonies 1 and 5 with the BBC SO have been reissued on Guild. Along with the second these recordings must have been some of my earliest introductions to these works. Sargent was a fine Sibelian and I can recommend these vintage performances. Sargent was always a reliable guide in the fifth symphony and especially in the huge first movement with its transition from the first part into the ‘Scherzo’. Many conductors become unstuck here! It was of course this very symphony that Sargent conducted in Helsinki on the day that the Master passed away.

  2. May we bring to your attention the following live recording of the Sibelius Violin Concerto which we have published in our “Antal Dorati live” Series:

    Sibelius: Violin Concerto/Steven Staryk/LSO/ Doráti/ADL 203 c/w Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique / LSO (rec. 1960).

The following unpublished concert recordings may be preserved in radio archives:

    Symphony No 1/25 May 1971/Finnish RSO/Finnish Radio
Symphony No 2/9 Dec 155/Minneapolis SO/Voice of America
    Symphony No 7/13 March 1973/Finnish RSO/Finnish Radio
    Tapiola/18 May 1969/Finnish RSO/Finnish Radio
    Violin Concerto/9 Dec 1955/Heifetz/Minneapolis SO

Please feel free to contact us.
