Very interesting interview with Jukka-Pekka Saraste. I was slightly surprised that the maestro listed the Sibelius Third Symphony as one of the works that he would be cautious about conducting. After all it is perhaps the most classically direct of the seven. Then I remembered that Karajan and Ormandy, both great Sibelians had avoided the Third Symphony. Both admitted that they did not understand the work.
